We’ve all been ambushed with this information a thousand times over, so I’ll spare you the preamble and skip to the advice:
DRINK MORE WATER! Put a water bottle by your bed, beside the coffee maker and in your car cup holder. It's east to get busy and forget to refill your water bottle. Staying hydrated will make you feel better, help you eat less and aid your body’s immunity boosting powers to fight those nasty viruses that crop up this time of year.
BUY EXTRA GIFTS! No one wants the stress of an extra trip to the store at the end of a busy day. Keep some extra gifts on hand so you don’t get caught. Decorative paper plates and napkins, a beautiful Christmas candle or an Amaryllis make the best hostess gifts, not to mention the sweet piano teacher or swim coach that you forgot to add to your list.
JUST SAY NO! If the thought of sending Christmas Cards (family photo, address list, stamps-Agh!) makes you crazy, put a nice picture on Facebook and fuhgetabout it! You can stick a card in the mail to those 5 friends that don’t subscribe to social media. If going to the holiday office party makes you squirm, politely decline. Also remember that gift cards are always a great option if shopping is just too much for your schedule or your sanity this year. Don’t feel guilty about doing less or doing something different. Forget about how it “should be” or how it “used to be”. Exercise your options!
SCHEDULE YOUR WORKOUTS! Print out a December calendar and hang it on your refrigerator door. Give yourself a gold star or a cute Christmas sticker every day you complete your workout. I know it sounds childish, but we’re all children at Christmas, right?! We could also use the extra motivation this month!
CUE THE AMBIANCE/DITCH THE FOOD! Listen to Christmas tunes in your kitchen, light some fragrant candles or make a warm cup of Peppermint tea. Whatever you can do to create a festive, cozy and stress-free environment so your home feels like a retreat during the holiday madness. Don’t let cookies, candies, egg nog and those pesky little treats that invade our home all month long become your comfort and joy this season.
